BBC world war worksheets

History questions and activities BBC

war images

BBC History

The BBC website has some fun interesting little facts for children on, this would be a really god idea to adapt to my work, make the pages of the booklet a bit more interesting.

History - World war 2

I have decided upon world war 2 children for children aged 9-11, the topics of choice within this are:
World at war
Evacuation
War time homes
Food and shopping
The war effort
Children at war
Air raids
Daily life
Growing up in the war
The war ends

I need to look at exactly what children are taught first to decide what the most interesting, and then i can decide what i am going to illustrate.

I have research across the internet to find different ways teachers 'teach' children, as i am planning on making some sort of booklet these are some worksheets i have found on the topics i have chosen. The different topics within the subject are really varied here as i still haven't decided on the school year.

Childrens illustrations

Not exactly the style im going for but she has used imagery which would really appeal to children, its really plain but really obvious which i feel is needed and the interesting aspects to make it feel real she has added through texture and color.

Childrens illustrations

The above are illustrated by Emily Golden, what cought my attention with these is the hand drawn images she has put into digital but also the different patterns she has used in different areas to make the image so much more interesting such as the matresses in the last image.

I really really like this and am becoming increasingly interested in different textures and colours you can put into one image. This is used in the above image by Ryan Bubnis it brings it to life so much, without it i think this would look quite scary but the different colours texture and collage he uses grabs your attention to the different areas of detail and brings it alive.

Childrens illustrations

These are illustrations by Steve Mack, he is a Illustrator for children's books, I really like how simple the images he creates are but they represent the page so clearly for a child. They look really textured and colorful, i think this is really important and worth considering because it will help grab a child's attention. my favorite is the owl, he has used really simple shapes to create the image which makes it come to life in a different way than the obvious drawing.

Images - Animal

I want to use exotic animals i think for this section, most children have never seen these animals before so they find them really interesting and exciting which will draw them in to this section. These are just a few really poor pictures i put when i went to Flamingo Land a while ago but you get the idea from them what i want.

Type Faces

After looking at lots of different type faces i have narrowed it down to the ones above, they are all taken from DaFont apart from one, i feel i want the type face to be similar to handwriting, particularly children's handwriting, i feel this will give it a much more welcoming feel to young children, and they will be able to relate to the type. I do need to see what this looks like against the imagery i cant just assume this style will work.
